Sigtunascenen (eng the Sigtuna scene) is the name of a new book. The book describes how the small swedish town of Sigtuna (outside of Stockholm) had a small community of dedicated and hard working skateboarders, snowboarders and punk rockers.
During this time – early 90ies – the swedish punk-hardcore-music scene was really big with bands such as Refused, No Fun At All, Millencolin and LAst Days of April. These bands and what they did had a big impact on local skate- and punkorientationed people all over Sweden. Anyway – this book tells the story of what happened in Sigtuna and the people around that scene.
The saying on the world wide web is that Lib Tech will do outerwear next season. Apparently they are designing some stuff with Quiksilver. Thirtytwo Boots are also going into the outerwear business.
I´ve gotten some comments on my last post about which rocker snowboard to buy. After all excellent advices and comments I was still a bit confused. So I was really happy when Shay of Shayboarder.com – probably the best snowboarding blog on the Internet – came up with some some advices. Here what Shay has to say about the Lib tech Skate Banana VS K2 Turbo dream:
The big differences between the skate banana and the turbo dream are the edging, flex and where your weight can be. The Skate banana is the fun board, with the mtx on it gives you better control and edging on hardpacked and icy conditions (more contact points to grip the snow) and that’s something the Turbo Dream doesn’t have. The Turbo Dream is a stiffer than the Skate Banana but still in no way a stiff board, just a stiffer flex…it handles powder better.
The weight is the last difference, on the Turbo Dream because of the design you need to stay centered to have control over the board. When you shift your weight back on the Turbo Dream you start to lose control over your edges on groomers.
The Skate Banana with the mtx definitely grips better, has a more controlling edge and you can adjust your weight how you see fit. Personally for you, the Skate Banana sounds like the better choice, it is the fun board to play around with and with the Riders Choice it offers up a soft fun board to your stiffer freeride board.
So I´m looking for a new board. After reading reviews, previews and all other sort of random notes I´ve sort of decided to go for a rocker. Today I ride a Gnu Riders Choice. And I´m soo happy with it.
But now I´m looking for something that is a bit more on the playful side. My Riders Choice is a bit heavy and stiff (161.5). So far I´ve come up with 3 boards to choose between: Lib Tech Skate Banana, K2 Turbo Dream and the Park Rocker from Signal.
Any suggestions? To me it seems like a close call. I want the board to be a bit soft but still stable at high speeds and handle groomers well. Beside that I need it to be easy to handle and toss around. Maybe not so easy to find all in one board.
One problem is that here in Sweden the good boards tend to be sold out once the snow finally comes. And we don´t have that many demo opportunities either. So it´s a bit about buying what you think is good.
